The Centre for Student Affairs, Anna University receives the admission approval orders from the Directorate of Technical Education, who have been admitted in the First year UG/PG/Second year lateral entry/UG (Part-Time)degree courses in all the Govt./Govt.Aided/Self Financing Engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University. Based on the DOTE Approval order, the Recognition, Registration and Administration fees are collected, as mentioned in the table below. After receiving the fee, the student name will be registered in the University records.

Anna University Student Grievance Redressal

The students of an affiliated engineering colleges under the ambit of Anna University and their parents can approach “The Director, Centre for Student Affairs, Anna University, Chennai”, if they have any grievances in their College. They can send their complaints by post / in person / email, for the following grievances;

Academic grievances:

  • Related to theory and practical classes
  • Related to Internal assessment
  • Related to appearance of semester examinations

Re-Registration / Transfer cum Re-Registration

For Affiliated Colleges

  • Candidates seeking readmission (UG / PG Degree Courses) for any semester in Self-financing Engineering Colleges / Government Engineering Colleges / Autonomous Engineering Colleges are required to contact “The Commissioner, Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), Chennai – 25 through the Principal of the respective Colleges.
  • The College should also get the approval from the Director, Academic Courses, Anna University Chennai, for any additional courses to be undertaken by student/s and/or exemption of courses already studied in respect of the student/s who have been readmitted before the end of final semester, in case of change in Regulations, if any.

Anna University – Transfer of Students Between Engineering Colleges

Candidates seeking (both UG/PG) transfer between Self-financing Engineering Colleges / Government Engineering Colleges / Autonomous Engineering Colleges are required to contact “The Commissioner, Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), Chennai – 25 through the Principal of the respective Colleges.

These guidelines are applicable to the following category of colleges affiliated to Anna University, Chennai – 25:

  • Students studying B.E / B.TECH / B. Arch and M.E / M.TECH / M.Arch / M.Plan / MBA / MCA degree courses are eligible for transfer only after completion of first year course of study. All types of transfers mentioned above shall be processed through the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai.
  • Students studying in UG/PG degree courses are eligible for transfer only to the respective branch of study. Transfer from one branch to another branch shall not be accorded for any reason.
  • Transfer between institutions will be considered subject to the availability of vacancy in the branch in which the student is at present studying provided the students seeking transfer shall be accommodated within the sanctioned strength of the respective branch to which the transfer is required.
  • Request for transfer between institutions will be considered only during the commencement of the academic year (i.e., Third/Fifth/Seventh Semester of Study).
  • Application seeking transfer should bear the consent of the principals of both the transferor and transferee colleges.
  • Mere forwarding of Applications for transfer by the Principals with their consent does not confer any right on the students seeking transfer and the Director of Technical Education reserves the right either to accept or reject or withhold the application on administrative grounds without assigning any reasons.
  • The transfer of a student from one College to another College after a break in study is always subject to fulfillment of time limit prescribed by the University.
  • Students seeking transfer should continue the course of study in the present college till the transfer order is issued for admission to the new colleges by the University concerned.

Transfer from/to Autonomous Institution shall be granted subject to the following conditions:

  • Students seeking transfer from/to autonomous institution within the same University should have passed all the examination held by the parent college/University for the course of study already completed and shall produce necessary documentary evidences to that effect.
  • Students seeking transfer from/to Autonomous institution within the same University during the commencement of the academic year namely third and fifth semester of study should produce No objection Certificate (NOC) issued by Anna University Chennai-25.

PART TIME B.E. / B.TECH TRANSFER

  • Transfer of student undergoing Part time course is permissible provided the student is employed and seeks institution transfer due to reasons of job transfer only.
  • Transfer shall be allowed subject to the condition that the principal of the transferee college should certify that the student seeking transfer had furnished the required documents in support of his claim and that the working place of the students seeking transfer is within 90 kilometers from the transferee college.

INTERSTATE STATE UNIVERSITY TRANSFER

  • Inter State transfer shall mean transfer from Government run Universities in other States.
  • Eligible students should have passed in all previous examinations conducted by the parent colleges / University.
  • Transfer from Private / Deemed Universities anywhere in India shall not be considered.
  • The students should have passed all the examinations prescribed by the parent University for the duration of the course of study already completed in the present institution and shall produce documentary evidences.
  • Students seeking transfer should produce NOC obtained from the Anna University, Chennai.

Note:

  • The principal of the parent college should certify that the student is seeking transfer due to job transfer with supporting proof.
  • The principal of the transfer requested to college should certify that the working place of the student seeking transfer is within 90 Kilometers from the institution.
  • Transfer from Non-autonomous to autonomous is not permitted.

University will accord the readmission approval orders after the receipt of the prescribed fee, for the concerned academic year as and when the readmission orders are received from the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai – 25.

Anna University Students Name Change

Students Name Change

The Name change Updation in university records will be approved based on the notifications of Government Gazette. Name Change Updation will be effected by the Controller of Examinations, Anna University, Chennai only for Certificates issued on or after the date of Gazette notification.

The candidates need to apply for Name change updation in University records by submitting the following documents:

  1. Filled in application form (Download application) forwarded by the Principal of respective college along with the processing fee.
  2. Government Gazette that includes the applicant’s change of name. (First page and the page in which the name has been changed).
  3. HSC / SSLC marksheet and Previous semester marksheet. [First year / Lateral Entry students need to submit the attested copy of Hall Ticket].

Student Affairs – Break of Study

Provision for Authorised Break of Study

A student is permitted to go on break of study for a maximum period of one year as a single spell.

Break of Study shall be granted only once for valid reasons for a maximum of one year during the entire period of study of the degree programme. However, in extraordinary situation the candidate may apply for additional break of study not exceeding another one year by paying prescribed fee for break of study. If a candidate intends to temporarily discontinue the programme in the middle of the semester for valid reasons, and to rejoin the programme in a subsequent year, permission may be granted based on the merits of the case provided he / she applies to the Director, Student Affairs in advance, but not later than the last date for registering for the end semester examination of the semester in question, through the Head of the Institution stating the reasons therefore and the probable date of rejoining the programme.

The candidates permitted to rejoin the programme after break of study / prevention due to lack of attendance, shall be governed by the Curriculum and Regulations in force at the time of rejoining. The students rejoining in new Regulations shall apply to the Director, Academic Courses in the prescribed format through Head of the Institution at the beginning of the readmitted semester itself for prescribing additional courses, if any, from any semester of the regulations in-force, so as to bridge the curriculum in-force and the old curriculum.

The authorized break of study would not be counted towards the duration specified for passing all the courses for the purpose of classification

The total period for completion of the Programme reckoned from, the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted shall not exceed the maximum period (as per the regulations) irrespective of the period of break of study in order that he/she may be eligible for the award of the degree.

If any student is prevented for want of required attendance, the period of prevention shall not be considered as authorized ‘Break of Study’.
